Step 1: Survey

Topographic surveys lead to drainage solutions.

HDS offers comprehensive surveying. We do not use Radar data due to inaccuracies. A ground truth survey will be conducted using RTK or a LiDAR drone. RTK and LiDAR data results within 2cm – 10cm vertical accuracy.

In order to appraise the feasibility of a drainage project, a topographical survey must be conducted so we can further prepare a drainage plan in more detail.

Step 2: Design

Design Your Drainage Plan

Once we have collected topographic/elevation data, we prepare a drainage plan. We combine several data packages such as, elevation data, soils maps, hydraulic conductivity, yield maps, and satellite imaging, to determine what type of system will yield the highest performance for each field.

Step 3: Implementation

Once we decide on the best plan for you, it will consist of one or both solutions for your land. Then we will decide if your land also needs Controlled Water Management or Lift Stations. Below, give a short snap shot of each one.

Sub Surface Drainage

For those with too much water or soils that strongly retain moisture, sub-surface drainage systems can optimize crop root depth and provide control of your field’s water table, leading to significant yield improvements of more than 30% in the first year.

Controlled Drainage

AGREM designs controlled drainage systems to effectively manage your water table regardless of your fields topography. By using multiple control gates dividing a field into elevation zones, AGREM controlled drainage systems are the best means to block nutrient runoff and conserve natural precipitation during the growing season. These systems are further able to be upgraded into subirrigation systems.

Lift Stations

A Lift Station may be your only option if:

• The outlet ditch is too shallow
• The outlet ditch stay full for several days after a large rain
• The amount of water that leaves the field needs to be controlled
• Water elevation is controlled by a culvert
• The field is too flat, where laterals can’t get enough grade for proper drainage
